About Me.
Every writer carries a story, and mine begins with a heart that learned to speak through poetry. My name is Cara Minama, and Across From You was created from years of holding pain, healing, growing, and finding my voice again. Writing became the place where I could turn heartbreak into something gentle, where I could offer comfort to others who felt lost or unseen.
This website is more than a collection of poems; it is a home for anyone searching for understanding, softness, and truth. Here, you will find my journey as a writer, the inspirations behind my work, and the moments that shaped my storytelling. My mission is to create poetry that feels honest, supportive, and relatable—words that remind readers they are not alone.
I am committed to sharing writing that honours resilience and emotional strength. Through this platform, you can explore new poems, learn more about my creative process, and purchase my books directly. Whether you visit for healing, inspiration, or curiosity, I hope this space gives you something to hold on to.
Thank you for being here. Your presence brings these words to life.
Education
2023 -present
University of Windsor
I am currently completing a combined Honours Bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Art and English, a double major that allows me to engage deeply with storytelling in both its literary and performative forms. This program has given me the opportunity to study narrative from multiple angles: reading, writing, performing, designing, and critically analysing the ways stories shape human experience.
Throughout my studies in English, I have strengthened my abilities in close reading, academic research, creative writing, and literary analysis. I have explored a wide range of genres—from poetry and drama to novels and essays—developing a deeper understanding of language, voice, and emotional expression. These skills have directly influenced my work as a poet, helping me refine my style and articulate my ideas with clarity and intention.
In Dramatic Art, I have gained hands-on experience in acting, stagecraft, directing principles, and collaborative creation. I have worked on performance projects, script analysis, movement work, and design concepts, all of which have broadened my understanding of character, emotion, and the physical dimensions of storytelling. This training has helped me develop confidence, creative discipline, and a strong appreciation for teamwork in the arts.
My double major has shaped me into a versatile artist with the ability to blend written craft and performance energy. It has sharpened my communication skills, expanded my creative vision, and given me the tools to express complex emotions through poetry, prose, and dramatic work. As I continue through the program, I remain committed to using my education to grow as a writer, a performer, and a storyteller dedicated to meaningful, honest art.
